Call for Arias – Chicanísima Concert

Opera Cultura invites submissions of arias by Latina composers and librettists to be presented as part of a staged concert of Chicanísima. Selected works will be performed for piano and voice in a one-hour program celebrating contemporary Latina voices in opera.

Opera Cultura invites submissions of arias, duets, and trios by Latina creators to be presented as part of a staged concert of Chicanísima, an opera by Carla Lucero.

The concert will take place at MACLA (Movimiento de Arte y Cultura Latino Americana) on June 27, 2026, with two performances at 12:00 PM and 5:30 PM. The total program will be approximately one hour in duration.

In addition to Chicanísima, Opera Cultura will present selected arias that highlight the voices, perspectives, and artistry of Latina composers and librettists.

Eligibility

​​

  • Arias must be from an opera or operatic work

  • At least one creator (composer or librettist) must be Latina

  • U.S.A.  based artists only ( U.S. citizenship not required)

Instrumentation & Voice Types

  • Piano and voice

  • Accepted voice types:

    • Soprano

    • Mezzo-soprano

    • Tenor

  • Submissions may be:

    • Solo arias

    • Duets

    • Trios

Duration

3–6 minutes

Submission Requirements

Creators must submit:

  • Resume

  • Excerpt of the aria from the piano-vocal score in PDF format  OR a full piano vocal score with the excerpt clearly identified by page number and measure number

  • Audio link of aria or YouTube video

  • If the link includes more than the excerpt, it must be cued to the correct section
