Thank you for being part of the story
On Saturday, June 27, ¡Chicanísima! came to life at MACLA — two performances, two communities, one unforgettable story. Composer Carla Lucero's chamber opera, brought to the stage by Quinteto Latino and an extraordinary cast, gave voice to Olga Talamante's journey in a way words alone never could. The program also featured arias by composers Mary Alice Rich, Rodrigo Camargo, and Laura Jobin-Acosta — a celebration of the diverse voices shaping the future of Latinx opera.
And Olga was there to see it.
Watch the cast and Quinteto Latino take their final bow above — with Olga Talamante in the audience, watching her own story sung back to her.
Thank you to everyone who came, who shared this campaign, who showed up for Latinx opera, for Chicana history, and for a story fifty years in the making. This is what community looks like.
¡Chicanísima! may have taken its final bow, but the story isn't over. Stay tuned for what's next from Opera Cultura.
